Our four-night stay at Kingsacre was just lovely. We came to think of Kingsacre as a little oasis and treated our stay as a relaxing getaway. This accommodation is surrounded by gorgeous lush gardens, and even though it is only a short walk to the beach, and the hustle and bustle of Nai Yang, you do get the feeling of being somewhere secluded and relaxing.
Glen and Christine are a friendly, easy going couple, full of local knowledge. They are generous hosts that will go above and beyond to cater for your needs. They offer a *free airport pick up and drop off service. When they built Kingsacre, they modelled it on the sort of place they’d like to stay at while on holiday, and that does become apparent… they have remembered all the little things to make a stay more comfortable!
The Location
Located at the end of a cul-de-sac road in Nai Yang, it gets no through-traffic which helps to make the area peaceful and quiet. The beach is within walking distance, as are the beach bars, restaurants, massage parlours and souvenir shops. Closer still to Kingsacre, you will find restaurants, street food and minimarts. Kingsacre is close to the Phuket airport.
The Accommodation
There are three different types of accommodation. Three villas, three cabins and one cottage for long-term accommodation.
The Villas
We stayed in the Seahorse Villa. We had a large room with a large ensuite. The bed was very comfortable, and we had bedside tables and extra pillows which I just adore! Bedside lamps, flatscreen TV, fridge, dressing table and unlimited drinking water! Tea, coffee, sugar and creamer; at Kingsacre you also find a lot of little extras like wine glasses, plates, bowls and cutlery to use if, like us, you want to enjoy a meal eaten in your room or on your patio. Other extras include insect spray, bottle opener and corkscrew.
Outside on the patio is a table and chairs, ashtray, candle, mozzie coil burner and a lighter. They provide plenty of candles and mozzie coils for you to use as you need. There are umbrellas, a clothes drying rack, an electric mosquito zapper and a fan. They really have thought of everything!
The other villas – Dragonfly Deluxe Villa and Butterfly Villa include all of the above. Dragonfly Villa is larger in size to the room we stayed in. Butterfly Villa is a twin room. Butterfly Villa and Seahorse Villa are joined by a small foyer and are a good choice if you are travelling with other people. For more information about the accommodation click here.
The Cabins
These are a little more basic but still full of extras which I haven’t found in any other cabin type accommodation so far!
Gecko Lodge and Flycatcher lodge are double rooms, while Kingfisher lodge is a twin. The cabins are set in a beautiful grassy area. They consist of a bed, mosquito net, fan, bedside tables, lamps, mirror, extra cushions, a large shelf to store your gear and a couple of opening windows. All cabins have ensuite bathroom and a private veranda. The verandas contain a fridge, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and creamer, mosquito coils, candles, lighter, plates cutlery etc. The verandah has a waterproof blind which can be lowered if needed and there are umbrellas for your use.
The Cottage
Palm Cottage has a kitchen and is set up for long-term rentals. King size bed, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, large screen TV, iron, hairdryer etc. Palm Cottage is fully fitted out tastefully furnished.
The Wifi
Although Glen warned me that the Seahorse Villa was notorious with lousy wifi signal, I found the wifi to be exceptionally fast.
The Pool
The beautiful pool, set amid the gorgeous garden, is often shaded by the palms that grow around it. It is easy enough to find cooling shade if you want it, and there are sun-beds available with comfortable cushions. Pool towels are available from Christine or Glen. There is also a small bar at the poolside. The pool is clean and well maintained.
The Garden
The gardens are exceptionally well maintained, lush and full of colour. They have been designed in a way that lends itself to seclusion and gives Kingsacre an oasis feeling. The gardens are full of sunbirds and butterflies!
The Food
At Kingsacre they serve breakfast for those who want it, at an extra cost. Set in a garden nook, breakfast is a pleasant affair and scrumptious! Dwayne and I don’t usually pay for breakfast (instead grab some cheap street food), but we did here because it was well worth it! Once our order was taken, we were given our fruit plate which we devoured while waiting for our “big” breakfast. Tea and coffee, juice and milk were delivered to the table, and then our “big” breakfast arrived! Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, tomato and sausage along with toast, croissants, butter, jam, marmalade. There is also a choice of cereal. The big breakfast kept me going until dinner time!
To Drink
Unlimited drinking water, tea and coffee in your room. There is also a small bar with a limited but sufficient choice of beverages, including icy cool coconut!
Getting There
From the airport – when you book your room with Glen and Christine you can organise a *free airport pick up.
Self-drive – If you have your own car or motorbike, Kingsacre is easy to find by using maps.me, Maps and Google Maps Apps, or if you contact Glen or Christine they will be able to provide you with easy to follow instructions.
Getting Around
Glen and Christine can organise a variety of sightseeing trips at very competitive rates for you, and they are also able to arrange bike or car hire if desired. Walking to the beach is possible, as is walking to nearby restaurants and mini-marts.
Nearby Activities
Nai Yang beach is a popular Phuket beach with all the usual tourist activities – restaurants, bars, massage and souvenir shops. It is a tree-lined beach which is excellent if you want to enjoy the beach but stay out of the sun at the same time.
Soi dog foundation, wellness spas, yoga retreats, elephant sanctuaries, national parks, waterfalls and a gibbon rehabilitation centre are all reasonably close to Nai Yang.
Kingsacre & The Environment
At Kingsacre I noticed a number of things that Christine and Glen do to reduce their impact on the environment. Firstly, they have done away with the complimentary bottled water and provide water in a large dispenser that offers cold water and boiling water… thereby reducing the use of plastic bottles.
They also encourage the guests to be aware of the usage of electricity in such that the air conditioner is charged per usage. I think that if you are paying for the air conditioner, albeit a small charge, you are less likely to go out for the day and leave on the air-conditioner… every small thing we do can help!
Kingsacre & Giving Back to the Community
Nearby, in Nai Yang, is the Soi Dog Foundation. Soi Dog, meaning “street dog”, is a dog and cat shelter aimed at improving the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia; to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty. This non-profit organisation relies on donations and volunteers.
Glen and Christine offer very generous discounts to people volunteering at Soi Dog. Visit https://www.soidog.org/ for more information about this organisation.
Our Verdict
I can’t think of anything negative to say. However, Dwayne would have liked a bigger TV…LOL
Kingsacre was everything we were looking for. Rooms were clean and tastefully furnished; with the many added extras, there we no costly trips to the local mini-mart to buy fly spray or a bottle opener! The property, including buildings, gardens etc. is very well maintained, neat and clean. The hosts, Christine and Glen, are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and drinks around the pool relaxing. I would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation for people wanting that little bit extra, privacy, seclusion and helpful hosts.
